The festival is made up of two words, namely Raksha and Bandhan which signifies "the tie or knot of protection. Together, the festival symbolizes the eternal love among brother & sister.Traditionally
on this festival, sisters tie a rakhi on their brother's wrist and pray for his prosperity and long life whereas brothers promise to protect them throughout their life.
The children of classes Nursery to V made rakhees with the craft materials and also tied it to a tree as a symbol for longevity of environment and to the people who protect them in all situations.
